Security forces on Saturday conducted searches of vehicles, particularly two wheelers, in Srinagar, where Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range K Vijay Kumar had recently said that three militants and 15 Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were active.
Security forces had established nakas at different areas, particularly on main roads, to keep a strict vigil on vehicles and pedestrian.
Vehicles, particularly motorcyclists and scooters, were being stopped by security forces near Palladium chowk in historic Lal Chowk area. Besides checking the documents of their vehicles, security forces were searching their bags before allowing them to go.
Though there is no specific information about militant movement in the city, security forces are conducting random searches to foil any attempt to smuggle in arms and ammunition, official sources said.
However, so far no one was arrested, they said.
Mr. Kumar has recently said that three militants and 15 OGWs are active in Srinagar who will be captured or eliminated.
