A 22-year-old youth was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs two crore by some unidentified persons at local main Sabzi Mandi, Rahimpur, in the early hours on Monday morning.
According to the police sources, Rajan, son of Yashpal of local Mount Avenue Colony, was abducted in front of his father’s shop at Vegetable market( Sabzi Mandi)
Rajan reached Sabzi Mandi at about 0445 hours and parked his car infront of his father’s shop. As soon as he came out of his car, another car suddenly appeared before him and the unidentified persons who come out of that car abducted Rajan and bundled him in their car. Before fleeing they also took Rajan’s car with them, police said.
The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Later, Rajan’s abductors telephoned his father Yashpal and demanded a ransom of Rs two crore for releasing him, police said.
The incident came to light when Rajan’s elder uncle who was returning from auction site in the Sabzi Mandi asked his brother (Rajan’s father) that he had not come to the auction site. They made a number of attempts on his mobile phone, but it was responded as switched off. Later, they checked the CCTV cameras installed in the area and came to know about his kidnapping.
On receiving information Hoshiarpur SSP Amneet Kondal alongwith SP (investigation) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu along with police force reached the spot and started the investigation.
Amneet Kondal said that various teams had been dispatched in search of Rajan and his kidnappers. Efforts were being made to locate them. She hoped that Rajan would soon be traced.
