The 9-day NCC annual training camp at this border town in the Bandipora district attracted 175 boys and girl cadets from schools and colleges across the Kashmir valley and Jammu.
Defence spokesman, Srinagar, Col Emron Musavi said after the successful conduct of NCC Annual Training Camp at Machil, Kupwara, 3rd J&K BN NCC Baramulla is conducting another training camp at Dawar, Gurez, in North Kashmir.
This is a Combined Annual Training Camp being conducted from September 16 – 24, 2021 for NCC Cadets of whole of Kashmir Valley and few schools of Jammu. NCC has been introduced in the border Villages of Gurez for the first time ever on directions of Director General (DG) of NCC.
This camp is being conducted under the aegis of Group Headquarters and NCC Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate, located in Jammu. The location of the camp was chosen to give exposure to the students of Gurez to the NCC environment.
The physical conduct of the camp has been made possible by the Army at Dawar, Gurez, which is providing the infrastructure and administrative assistance, including accommodation for the cadets.
Col Mussavi said 175 NCC Cadets, both boys and girls from schools and colleges of Uri , Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Pattan, Bandipora, Baramulla, Pehalgam, Anantnag, Qazigund, Pulwama, Shopian and border towns of Gurez, are participating in the camp. Free Covid-19 testing for all participating cadets, was done by the Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Bandipora. He said that the main objective of this camp is to amalgamate the youth of Kashmir with the mainstream. Apart from imparting basic training, NCC cadets shall be selected to represent Kashmir in the JK contingent during the Republic Day Camp, 2022.
During this camp, the NCC cadets will be exposed to physical training, drill and weapon training, besides cultural and social activities like Swaach Bharat Drive, traffic awareness and tree plantation, he said.
Cadets will undertake adventure activities like trekking the adjacent heights of Gurez and visit border villages to impart social services to the locals. The cadets will also be interacting with the local youth of Gurez.
Cadets will also be introduced to army life in field conditions, by taking them to nearby army units. Senior and decorated army officers shall be interacting with the cadets to motivate them to become conscientious citizens.
