After the Andheri court making it clear that if Kangana Ranaut won’t appear in Javed Akhar defamation suit against her, an arrest warrant will be issued against her, the actress appeared in the court on Monday. Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation suit against the actress.
Akhtar’s case is that Kangana Ranaut, via various TV interviews and social media posts after Sushant’s Singh Rajput’s death, maligned his image.
On the last hearing, Kangana’s lawyer told the court that she had COVID symptoms and that’s why she couldn’t come. On Monday, Kangana Ranaut appeared in the Andheri court.
Kangana’s lawyer Adv Rizwan Siddiqui told the court, “This court has many times said that it will issue a warrant against her so Kangana is not comfortable this court hearing her matter. That’s why we have filed an application to transfer this case.”
Kangana’s lawyer further argued, “Why is she required to appear in the court in a bailable, compundable and non-cognisable offence, but this court has said on multiple occasions that a warrant will be issued against her, so she is not comfortable with this court.”
Adv Siddiqui told the court, “This court was issuing threat and asking her to remain present. On two occasions, this court issued threats indirectly. The court that she has to appear or else an arrest warrant will be issued. There is no reason given on why she is compelled to appear in a non-cognisable offence. She was asked to appear without any cause of reason.”
Javed Akhtar’s lawyer argued that “Every time there’s a bizarre excuse by the accused (Kangana) to not to appear in front of the court. The complainant (Akhtar) is appearing whenever required. She has no grounds to not appear every single time. When Kangana approached Bombay HC seeking quashing of the case, at that time there was no mention of her losing faith in this court.”
Kangana’s lawyer told the court that they are seeking a transfer of defamation suit against Kangana from this court and that hearing is on October 1.
The Javed Akhtar defamation case is now adjourned till November 15.
Kangana Ranaut has now filed a case against Javed Akhar. She has accused Javed Akhtar of extortion and criminal intimidation.
Kangana’s case is that during her feud with Hrithik Roshan, Javed Akhtar called her and Rangoli to his house. He intimidated her and asked Kangana to apologise to Hrithik.
Kangana’s lawyer said that as she has lost faith in the court hearing Javed Akhtar’s matter, she is seeking transfer of her case, along with the defamation suit against her from this court.
This case is also likely to be heard on October 1.
