Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Tuesday staged a protest against detention of senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh.
Scores of Congress leaders, including JKPCC President G A Mir, assembled inside the compound of the party headquarters in Srinagar and held a sit-in protest against the Priyanka’s detention.
Shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the demonstrators demanded immediate release of the Congress leader.
Holding placards, which read, ‘Priyanka aak aandhi hai, doosri Indira Gandhi hai’, the protestors warned that the protests will continue till she is not released. “The highhandedness against Priyanka by police is condemnable. It reflects the lawlessness in the state. Priyanka ji wanted to sympathise with the farmers,” Mir told reporters.
Priyanka was detained on Monday in Sitapur in UP while she was on her way to Lakhimpur to meet the families of the victims of the violence. Four farmers were among eight persons killed after a convoy of three SUVs, hit a group of farmer protesters leading to a clash.
Meanwhile, an FIR was on Tuesday lodged against 11 people, including Priyanka Gandhi, for ‘disturbing peace’.
