At least five people were killed, three in Sujanpura area of Jaunpur and 2 in Ramsanehi ghat area of Barabanki district due to house collapse following heavy rains.
Heavy rains followed by strong wind have disrupted normal life in eastern and in Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Continuous heavy rains in various districts of Purvanchal including Rae Bareli, Gorakhpur and Lucknow, the capital of UP, have inundated low lying areas while power lines were snapped due to uprooting of trees in several areas.
Traffic on the roads were also less due to water logging in most of the cities. In some places rail tracks were submerged while underpasses were closed due to water logging.
In Raebareli and Amethi districts the authorities have closed all the schools up to 8th standard for next 2 days due to heavy rains.
The weather office has issued an alert in 30 districts of UP for the next 48 hours of heavy rains.
Alert districts includes Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Mathura, Sitapur, Ayodhya, Moradabad, Shamli, Varanasi, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Amroha, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Prayagraj.
