India on Wednesday reported 37,875 daily new Covid cases and 369 deaths, as per health ministry’s updated bulletin at 9 am. While the death toll now stands at 4,41,411, as per updated data, India now has 3,91,256 active cases.
A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud, Vikram Nath and Hima Kohli also refused to entertain another PIL which demanded compensation for kin in each Covid death case treating it as medical negligence.
SC says given the diverse Covid situations and administrative complexities in the country, directing door to door vaccination is not feasible, especially when the vaccination is proceeding reasonably well.
SC said it cannot be presumed that such large number of unfortunate deaths caused by Covid were all due to medical negligence. “We cannot have such presumption,” it said and asked the petitioner to suggest measures through representation to Union government.
