For Hindus, Dhanteras festival marks the big occasion. It is celebrated on the 13th day of Krishna paksha is the month of kartik according to the Hindus calendar. It generally falls in the month of October-November each year. It takes place two days before the Diwali. On this day we pray for good health and wealth for the family.
It is a tradition to buying silver or gold or steel utensils which denotes the grace of goddess Lakshmi on people’s lives. The purchase of new things is dedicated to goddess Lakshmi and lord Kuber.
Dhanteras celebration in India is renowned for its grand scale festivity. While the houses, offices, and shops are clean and decorated in the festive mood with Flowers, Lighting, and Rangolis, beautiful Diyas are placed and make goddess Lakshmi’s little feet with the rice flour at the entrance of the house for good luck and prosperity.
This shows that the goddess Lakshmi is coming inside the house on her feet.
People offer greetings and gifting is also important rituals during Dhanteras. Some people keep fast on this day while some only do Pooja in the evening. While doing the Pooja, people devotee’s different types of food in front of the goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and happiness in life. Lakshmi Pooja should be done during the special offerings to goddess Lakshmi are puris and sweets.
