The Jammu and Kashmir police onThursday arrested three drug peddlers in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district in its continuous offensive against drug abuse in the district.
In a statement, Police spokesperson said that in a continuous effort to eliminate the menace of drug smuggling from the society, three habitual offenders and notorious drug peddlers, namely Javid Ahmad Lone son of Ali Mohammad Lone of Panzgam Kralpora, Shameem Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Tasween Bhat and Jahangir Ahmad Khan son of Late Rehmat Ali Khan-both residents of Karnah, have been arrested.
The statement reads that they were involved in drug peddling and have been detained under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act ,1988 through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention here that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a person engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and society can be detained up to maximum period of one year and can be extended.
“Kupwara Police have busted several Narcotic and Narco-Terror Modules and have arrested many notorious Drug peddlers, smugglers in different NDPS cases during this year,” it reads.
Meanwhile, Kupwara Police said that it is committed to continue its war against the drug peddlers, smugglers and sought co-operation of people in curbing social evils especially drug abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction.
