Adventure sports like parasailing and paragliding are fun, but one always has this fear at the back of one’s mind that the wire might snap. In an unfortunate case, that fear came true for a couple.
A couple went through a death-escaping experience while parasailing in Diu. Ajit Kathad and his wife, who wanted to experience parasailing in Diu, went through the worst nightmare when the parasailing rope tied to a boat separated from the source and sent them hurtling towards the sea,
Kathad and his wife, who were secured with lifejackets, didn’t realise the rope tear immediately. His brother Rakesh, who was filming the ride on his mobile phone, could be heard screaming in horror after seeing them flying without any support.
After the couple landed in the sea they were rescued immediately by lifeguards of Palms Adventure and Motorsports and brought ashore, as per TOI. Palms Adventure and Motorsports is the private firm that runs the parasailing service at Nagoa beach.
“I was recording the video and had no idea what to do when the rope broke. I could see my brother and sister-in-law falling from a great height. I never felt so helpless as I did that moment,” Rakesh told the outlet.
Rakesh later told reporters that he had pointed out to operators that the parachute rope looked frayed and worn-out. However, he was assured that nothing would happen and that the damaged part of the rope would not even make it to the air.
Mohan Lakshman, proprietor of Palms Adventure and Water Sports told TOI that this is the first time that wind gusts have caused an occurrence like this in the last 3 years.
“We have well-trained staff for rescue operations going by the guidelines and they have all been trained in Goa,” he said.
Kathad and his family went to the police station after the incident to report the issue of negligence. It is understood they didn’t file a formal complaint.
People on Twitter were left horrified after watching the video and questioned the safety measures put in place.
