The honorarium of all councilors of Leh and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Councils in Ladakh has been doubled. Earlier, the councilors used to get 60 thousand rupees per month. Now he will get Rs 1.20 lakh per month.
In this, apart from honorarium of Rs 60 thousand, Rs 40 thousand has been fixed as constituency allowance, Rs 10 thousand for office and telephone expenses and Rs 10 thousand per month as medical allowance.
Commissioner Secretary, Ladakh General Administration Department Ajit Kumar Sahoo has issued the order under Section 35 of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act 1997. According to Sahu, the Union Territory Administration has taken this decision to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.
All councilors of Ladakh and Kargil will be benefitted by this decision. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Pawan Kotwal regarding the issue of increase in honorarium of councillors. After the recommendation of the committee, the proposal was approved.
