Shakti Vijay Brigade of Indian Army and civil society came together to observe International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was organised at Chinar Park, Tangdhar here today. With “Addressing drugs challenges in health and humanitarian crisis” as the theme, the grave issue of drugs abuse was highlighted through awareness lectures by prominent civilians.
An exhaustive panel discussion was also conducted in which selected panelists highlighted the various socio-economic issues, solutions and also the need to curb narco-terrorism sponsored by Pakistan (approximately 61 Kg Heroin and Brown Sugar have been caught in Karnah since January last year).
A skit was enacted by Pahari & Gojri Cultural Club on the issue. Youths recently trained by Gunjan Organisation for Community Development, Dharamshala and AIIMS, New Delhi in collaboration with Indian Army also made the contributions in the event emphasising on the importance of the role of the society in taking the problem head-on and not merely treat it as a law and order issue. School children of Army Goodwill School, Hajinar performed musical dances to spread the message of positivity and optimism.
It would be important to highlight that a widespread campaign was launched on 26 June last year by Shakti Vijay Brigade in coordination with Gunjan Organisation. As part of it a few doctors and paramedics staff have been trained by AIIMS, New Delhi for de- addiction programme as also youths have been trained by Gunjan Organization at Dharamshala. Aarogya Sevikas trained by Indian Army have been carrying out village to village awareness throughout the tehsil.A march was also organised by the civil populace against drug abuse from Amrohi to Parada to create awareness.
