New Zealand have started off good on the final day of the Kanpur Test, with Tom Latham and night watchman William Somerville keeping the scoreboard ticking.
The pair resumed the action from the overnight score of 4/1 and have now taken the New Zealand total past 50. Both the batters have also stitched a 50-run partnership for the second wicket. Meanwhile, India are desperately looking for the first breakthrough on the final day and in the process have also wasted one of their reviews.
The tourists will heavily rely on their prolific skipper Kane Williamson and veteran batter Ross Taylor if the set pair falls anytime soon.
Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin, who is playing his 80th Test, is eyeing another milestone as he now stands a wicket away from surpassing Harbhajan Singh to become the third-highest wicket-taker from India in the red-ball format.
The carrom ball specialist has so far scalped four wickets in the match.
