The Border Security Force on Monday midnight gunned down a Pakistani intruder along the Indo-Pak international border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district, officials confirmed.
“During the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at around 1210 hours (12:10 am), jawans of the 36 battalion of BSF killed a Pakistani intruder near Baqarpur border outpost in RS Pura sector. A police team has reached the spot for investigation. The intruder was wearing a black coloured Khan dress. No recovery has been made from his possession,” said a police officer.
The body is yet to be retrieved, the BSF said.
“Today morning at about 1210 hrs, alert BSF troops noticed suspicious movement across the fence in the general area of border outpost Baquarpur. Our domination party at night noticed a person aggressively coming from the Pakistani side towards the fence with an intention to cross it. Our party ordered him to stop, but he paid no attention to it and continued his movement towards the fence. Left with no option, our troops fired three rounds at the intruder, due to which he fell down immediately before reaching the fence,” a BSF spokesperson said.
The search party combed the area after dawn and found the body of the intruder very close to the fence. As nothing was recovered from him, the body was handed over to the police, he added.
Meanwhile, in a massive development ahead of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage that will begin on June 30, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said they have arrested a terrorist, and seized arms and ammunition in Doda district of the Valley.
A police spokesperson said that Doda Police, along with security forces, arrested the terrorist identified as Fareed Ahmed, son of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Koti Doda. The cops have recovered one Chinese-made pistol, two magazines, 14 live cartridges and one mobile phone from his possession.
The arrest came after a police party set up a random check post on the outskirts of Doda when they intercepted a young man carrying arms and ammunition, the spokesperson said.
During questioning, Ahmad said he received the weapons from a person in March this year, and was tasked to attack policemen in Doda.
“An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of law with the Doda Police and an investigation has begun,” the spokesperson said.
Initial probe has revealed that Fareed was radicalised by his handlers and used to receive calls from commanders across the border.
“He was motivated to work for terrorist outfits in the Kashmir Valley and Doda region,” the spokesperson added.
