A few days after raising 36 locations across India, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) arrested three persons for selling the SSB’s Police Sub Inspector examination papers. They are Raman Sharma son of Chuni Lal, a resident of village Nore in MairaMandrian area of Khour, posted as Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) in Jammu and Kashmir Police, Suresh Sharma son of Ram Lal Sharma, a resident of KainkJageer in Akhnoor, a tout and Jagdish Sharma son of Dhani Ram, a resident of Masyal Narayana in Khour, a Government teacher. They ate now being interrogated about who gave them the papers.
The raids have already created a casualty. Amid raids, Dheeraj Pangotra, a police constable died of a heart attack at his residence at Matto Khour (Akhnoor). His brother, Sunil Pangotra also had also been raided. Informed sources suggested that the paper-sellers had taken RS 20 to Rs 30 lakh from every beneficiary. The raids were carried out across Jammu, Srinagar, Karnal, Mahendergarh, Rewari, Gandhidham, Delhi, Ghaziabad and Bengaluru. Khalid Jehangir, who was heading the SSB when the racket surfaced was also raided at Srinagar and Jammu.
CBI has booked more than 30 people in the racket which led to the cancellation of three selection lists involving three lakh candidates and more than 1200 youth who were eventually selected. The accused include a gang domiciled in Haryana, some teachers of Jammu, and a few serving and retired personnel of CRPF, JKP and JKSSB.
The second round of raids carried out at 36 locations offers an idea of possible involvement. These include Khalid Jehangir and Ashok Kumar, then Chairman and Controller SSB, KD Bhagat, DySP District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, Master Vijay Kumar, a resident of Panjtoot, Akhnoor and former PRO of ex-Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Raman Sharma, Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) Armed Police, Kewal Krishan alias Vicky, constable Armed Police, Sunil Pangotra, constable District Police, Amit Kumar Sharma, Pawan Sharma and Sunil Sharma, all constables in CRPF, Jagdish Kumar, teacher and resident of Akhnoor, Suresh Kumar Sharma R/o KainkJageer, Akhnoor, tout, Rakesh Kumar R/o MawaBrahamana, Akhnoor, tout and Thoru Ram and Sons, residents of Khour, Pallanwalla, all touts.
In Bengaluru, raids were carried out at the premises of M/s Merit Trac Services Pvt Ltd, the agency involved in conducting written examination for Sub Inspector in Jammu and Kashmir Police while in Haryana, the premises of those responsible for the publication of papers and its subsequent leak were searched. House of Chartered Accountant Ajay Kumar Aron was raided at Rewari in Haryana. Those named in the FIR include the then Medical Officer, BSF Frontier Headquarters Paloura, then Member JKSSB, then Under Secretary and Section Officer of SSB, ex-official of CRPF, ASI of JKP, owner of a coaching centre at Akhnoor, a private company based at Bengaluru, and some private persons.
