The event started with an Oath Taking Ceremony in which everyone present took the Pledge – We the people of India take oath on keeping firm faith on democracy and strive for the independent, impartial and peaceful election, and will cast the vote irrespective of religion, community and language. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Akbar Masood,Vice Chancellor BGSBU said that this day is celebrated to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.
Highlighting the importance of Voter’s Day , Prof. Akbar said that this day is observed across the nation to spread awareness about the importance of voting in a vibrant democracy and to encourage the young men and women of the country to participate in electoral process. It may be recalled that the Election Commission of India was constituted on 25th January 1950. Thus 25th January every year is now observed as the National Voters Day.
