As a part of Azadi ka Amrut Mohatsav and launch of Tribal week celebration today Department of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with District Administration Kishtwar celebrated “JanJati Gorav Diwas” at TRC Mughal Maidan here.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Kishori Lal Sharma graced the occasion in presence of BDC chairperson Mughal Maidan Sharifa Begum.
SDM Chatroo Inderjeet Singh Parihar,Tehsildar Mughal Maidan Nayeem Iqbal Sheikh, BDO Mughal Maidan Arun Badyal,BDO Inderwal Tasleem Wani,Sarpanches and Panches, sectoral officers besides locals and students of ST community remained present on the occasion.
During the programme, different activities including painting competition, felicitation ceremony and cultural items were held.
In the painting competition a total of 20 students participated and first three were awarded with 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes.
The main attraction of the programme was the Khatak Dance by the tribal artists.





Later, Jaffer Hussain ,a local PG student of Scheduled tribe community from Bhaderwah campus was also felicitated with token of appreciation.
On the occasion, 18 number of Forest Right Act Certificates were also handed over to the beneficiaries by the chair.
Speaking on the occasion ADC Kishtwar stated that Rashtriya JanJati Gorav Diwas is celebrated in the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters who showed immense courage and supreme sacrifice so that coming generations know about them.
He added that today is the birth anniversary of Sri Birsa Munda who is revered as Bhagwan by tribal communities across the country and he fought bravely against the exploitative system of the British colonial system.
He also threw light on Forest Right Act and “Aapki Zameen Aapki Nigrani” online land record system and urged people especially ST community to avail the benefits of dedicated schemes.
Besides he impressed upon the parents of tribal communities for the education of children as it is the only tool to uplift the downtrodden sections of the society and govt. is committed for the same.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were tehsildar Mughal Maidan,Medical officer PHC Chatroo, Warden Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel Shaker Hussain ,TSWO Chatroo,Sarpanches and Jaffer Hussain PG student.
