In J&K there is lesser trend for enrollment of names in the electoral rolls. Till now only six lakh applications related to claims for inclusion of names have been submitted. On Monday, the Election Commission reviewed the progress of the voter list and directed all the districts to expedite it. The election officers of all the districts participated in the review meeting held through video conferencing. Please note that the last date for submission of names is October 25.
In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Election Commissioner Hridesh Kumar, the progress of the work of preparing district wise voter list was taken. According to sources, during this it came to the fore that six lakh forms have been received so far. Knowing the reason for less number of claims coming from the election officer of each district, it was said that it should be expedited till the booth level.
Emphasis was also laid on increasing awareness among the common people by contacting the representatives of political parties. Emphasis was also laid on running awareness campaigns through various mediums. It was instructed that it should be ensured that no eligible voter’s name is left out from inclusion. In the last 15 days, the names of youths who have completed 18 years of age up to booth level should be included on war footing. Sources said that awareness should be created among the people of different age groups in each district.
Six Observers Appointed
The Election Commission has appointed six observers to oversee the work of preparing the electoral rolls. Secretary level officers Sanjeev Verma, Sarita Chauhan, Saurabh Bhagat, Sheetal Nanda as well as commissioners of both the divisions have been given the responsibility to monitor regularly.
