On October 2, electric trains will begin operating along the 137-kilometer Banihal-Baramulla rail link in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Indian Railway officials, the project has been under progress since August 2019. On September 26, the electric train link will undergo the required principle chief electrical engineer (PCEE) inspection.
On Gandhi Jayanti, the project will be officially launched, according to railway officials.
The 137-kilometer long electric train link’s Baramulla-Budgam segment has already undergone trials, and the remaining Budgam-Banihal portion will follow on September 20, according to sources.
They also said that the project cost for the electric train link from Banihal to Baramulla is Rs 324 crore.
The Banihal-Baramulla train link will be electrified, which will minimise air pollution and cut operational costs by sixty percent.
