Congress will oppose the inclusion of non-local voters in the voters’ list in Jammu and Kashmir. This issue will be challenged legally. Congress state in-charge Rajni Patil said this in Srinagar on Saturday.Alleging that giving voter rights to non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir is illegal.
Against this, the Congress will participate in the all-party meeting organized by the NC on Monday 22 August and discuss the issue. Congress state president will attend this meeting. Patil was speaking at a program in Srinagar on the 78th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Saturday.
He said the party will fight the issue legally and file a PIL. Vikar Rasool, the newly appointed President of the State Congress Committee, took charge in the program. When asked whether senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was upset with the party leadership, Patil said, “Azad has not resigned from any post.”He has refused to take up the post on grounds of his health. The name of Rasool for the state president was proposed by Azad.
