Hyderabad Police’s Cyber Crime Unit have filed a criminal case against the administrator of an Instagram page for alleged cyber stalking and bullying of a 20-year-old woman on the social media platform.
Assistant police commissioner (cyber-crime) K V M Prasad said the woman, an undergraduate student and a part-time employee at a private firm, lodged a complaint saying the admin used abusive language and threatened her.
He said they will take the case up with Instagram and seek details about the page and the admin. “A case has been filed against the Instagram page under Indian Penal Code’s Sections 354D [stalking] and 509 [insulting the modesty of a woman with the word, gesture or act].”
According to the woman’s complaint, the admin of the page shared a video of her with two friends first on July 29 and again two days later. She said the accused used abusive language against them and sought their details and that she was feeling intimidated and it was causing mental trauma to her.
Prasad said there was nothing unusual about such abuses on social media. “We have been getting at least one such complaint against Instagram page administrators every day. Nevertheless, we shall follow up the case,” he said.
