Union home minister Amit Shah is to meet slain Punjabi rapper-politician Sidhu Moose Wala’s family at the Chandigarh HQ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Moose Wala’s murder – he was shot dead in his car in Punjab’s Mansa district – sent shockwaves across the country. Police have said the murder was linked to inter-gang rivalry and are investigating the roles of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar in his killing.
On Friday, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann – who was slammed for scaling down state-provided security to Sidhu Moose Wala a day before he was gunned down – met the singer’s family. Before this, finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema and rural development minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had also visited Moose Wala’s house.
The 28-year-old singer rose to fame with catchy songs that often targeted rival rappers and politicians while portraying him as a man who fighting for his community’s pride.
Besides India, Sidhu Moose Wala also had a massive following abroad, especially in Canada and Britain – both home to large Punjab-origin communities.
Also on Friday, police arrested two men – both linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi – from Haryana’s Fatehabad. They have, though, been arrested in connection with a different case.
Bishnoi – currently in Delhi’s Tihar Jail – is being questioned by police in the national capital.
Prior to Friday’s arrests, police had also arrested Manpreet Bhau, a resident of Dhaipe village, in Punjab’s Mansa, in connection with the killing of Sidhu Moose Wala.
