As part of the public outreach programme, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed today chaired a Block Diwas event at Bandipora in which PRI members, general public, students, and officials of various departments participated.
The DC was apprised on various issues of public importance and he also listened to the grievances from the participants on various developmental issues, including on measures to be taken on drug/ substance abuse in the district.
On the occasion, the DC gave various on spot instructions to the concerned officers to take concrete measures to redress the grievances and to initiate early disposal of public and developmental issues .
Speaking on the occasion, the DC also committed to establishment of District Drug De- addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre in the district for the rehabilitation of drug abusers.
As part of the Block Diwas programme, a seminar titled “Say No to Drugs” was held by District Administration in collaboration with DLSA, BMO Office Bandipora and IDPS Bandipora in which various speakers including students, Secretary DLSA, Dy.SP Headquarters, BMO Bandipora, Media persons deliberated in detail with the causes of drug addiction, legal provisions, curative measures to be taken by various stakeholders to contain the spread of drug addiction .
The DC emphasised upon the students’ audience to focus exclusively on studies and choose diverse fields of occupation so that they become resources for the community.
He also stressed upon the students not to fall prey to peer pressure, lifestyle/ fashion trends. These, he said, are the main reasons for the youth to indulge in the menace of drug abuse. He further directed the stakeholder departments to spread awareness about the economic and social disadvantages of drug addiction besides directing further conduct of similar seminars on the issue.
Later, the DC flagged off a rally of Asha workers who toured the town carrying placards and audio aids for public awareness. The DC was accompanied by Secretary DLSA, Joint Director Planning, DIO, Dy.SP Headquarters, Tehsildar Bandipora and BMO Bandipora.
