Entire lower Himachal Pradesh is covered in thick fog leading to low visibility. The MeT forecasts same condition to prevail for next 40 hours till Thursday.
Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Solan, and parts of Mandi experienced fog cover from early Tuesday causing difficulty for drivers transporting everyday essentials.
It was difficult to drive in the morning hours, said Ramesh Sharma, a taxi driver. He told UNI it took him three hours to reach Hamirpur from Una as against two hours.
Biting cold condition continue in Himachal as icy cold winds from the Himalayas strikes the region.
To avoid any accident. Sharma and other drivers are using both head- and tail lights.
Cold waves from nearby Dhauladhar hills is sweeping across the region compounding problems for the people as both day and night temperatures have fallen sharply.
The sky was overcast with dark clouds on Monday.
People are mostly remaining indoors amid the Covid-19 surge and dipping mercury.
The MeT office said the sun was only visible around 10 am on Tuesday and sunlight was poor.
The weather department has warned of thick fog in the region for the next two days and advised people to follow advisories
“Take adequate safety measures and commute carefully during morning and evening hours,” it said.
It has also asked people keeping livestock to give proper protection — keeping them indoors amid the low temperature, and also make adequate arrangements to keep them warm.
It also cautioned potato farmers about infestation of late blight if there was high relative humidity in the atmosphere, while the mustard growers were advised to monitor their crop against the attack of white rust.
The agriculture department has advised spraying of Dithane-M-45 at 2 gram/ liter of water and making proper drainage channels to avoid water stagnation.
