Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane picked up where they left off on Day 2. They constantly found boundaries and as a result, not only did they take India past 100 but also brought up their 50-run stand. They then took India’s lead past 100 in the 9th over of the day.
Soon after, Pujara soared to his 32nd Test fifty off just 62 balls to keep India in command. After a few overs, Rahane smashed Olivier for two consecutive boundaries to bring their century stand and also get to his 25th Test 50.
Right after the drinks break, the hosts finally got their breakthrough as Rabada dismissed Rahane on 58. Rabada then struck again, trapping Pujara LBW on 53. Ashwin hit 16 off 14 balls before Lungi Ngidi dismissed him at the stroke of lunch to leave India at 188/6 at Lunch with a lead of 161.
