Around 9227 persons in Kashmir Valley were put under preventive arrest in year 2021 by the Jammu and Kashmir Police while 102 terror associates and miscreants were booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), officials said.
A senior police officer told local news agency that around 9227 persons were put under preventive arrests by police in the year 2021, following the apprehensions of law and order in the region.
“Most of these persons were arrested on the basis of their past track records but the preventive detention for 2-3 days worked for the larger cause of peace in the society. There was a massive decline in law and order incidents in the year 2021,” he said.The police officer said in 2021, only 67 law and orders incidents were reported while in 2020, 147 incidents were reported in the region. The situation has drastically improved, he said.Apart from that 102 militant associates, miscreants were booked under Public Safety Act. (PSA).
Most of them were found linked with the terror-related activities and even some ammunition was recovered from their possession, he said.“ Hybrid terrorists’ continue be a challenge of security forces in this year. We are working on new strategies to overcome this challenge. Presently there are 30-32 hybrid terrorists active in the region,” the officer said.
The police officer said, “Apart from using traditional AK47 rifles, terrorist in Kashmir are now seen using lightweight pistols to carry out attacks on forces personnel and political workers. In the past year around 167 pistols were recovered from terrorists,” he said.“Mostly terrorist are now changing the trend from using traditional AK 47 rifles to pistols because of their lightweight and portability,” he said.He said in year 2019, 65 pistols were recovered. However, in the next year of 2020, 142 were recovered and in last year (2021) 167 were recovered from terrorist.The official said, “Initially OWGs are given basic training of handling pistols and as it is easy to handle.
Following which they provide logistic support to active terrorist on the ground because they don’t come under the direct surveillance of police and other agencies.” “Apart from pistols, 340 grenades were recovered from terrorist. The new recruits are given grenades following shortage of weapons instead of assault rifles,” the officer said.In 2021, 168 terrorist, 34 civilians, and 30 uniformed soldiers were killed during anti-militancy operations across Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.While 168 ultras were killed in the year 2021 during 86 encounters, officials said. Among the killed, 145 were local while 17 were foreigners.“The casualty list of security forces includes 29 cops of Jammu and Kashmir Police followed by 6 Armymen and three CRPF personnel,” he said.So far this year, 7 foreigners including 16 terrorist have been killed in anti-insurgency operations in the Valley. Most of them belong to top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Toiba outfits.
